What is a Ghost Note?
In music, a ghost note is played softer than other notes. Being a drummer, I've learned that back beats and accents are immediately understood, whereas ghost notes possess immense power in their subtlety. Ghost notes are more felt than heard...they bring depth and fullness to a groove. If you have ever listened to a James Brown record, or focused on the snare drum in Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain”, it was most likely the ghost notes that drew you in.
You may wonder how ghost notes exist within the visual medium? Ghost notes, to me, are those subtle “notes" you play throughout the creative process. From conceptualizing, to writing, to capturing images, to editing a story that flows with the proper rhythm….it is most often the softer, less recognizable things you do that create a message that is truly felt, not just seen and heard. Its about getting that extra shot and being patient enough to find that gem of a soundbite at the end of a long day of interviews. It’s about using intuition and imagination from the onset of collaboration in order to make your vision and message come to life.
GhostNoteCreative's mission is to, as they say in music circles, "play for the song". A video must aspire to do more than just reach your desired audience, it must reach them on an emotional level and motivate them to take action. Your story needs to be told...and it can be...with the power of ghost notes.
